Vallila Interior launches Jakob Shclaepfer in Finland
Jakob Schlaepfer’s Décor collection
At over 100 years old Jakob Schlaepfer is just as creative as it has ever been: the company is still managing the feat of producing something in St Gallen which no-one else anywhere in the world is able to match. Over the years its determination to make only the best has brought Jakob Schlaepfer to its unique place at the top of the world of fashion and textiles.
Now for the first time Jakob Schlaepfer is presenting a textile collection for interior decoration under its own label. With a feel for the spirit of the times, the team in St Gallen has created more than two dozen trendsetting fabrics that will inspire architects, interior designers and decorators and an exclusive clientèle to create new looks for interiors. The impetus comes not only from new ideas in colour and design; it is also triggered by continuous technical progress. Jakob Schlaepfer is an “industrial manual manufacturer”, combining traditional embroidery techniques with constantly developing know-how: an ever-increasing pool of ideas which Jakob Schlaepfer draws on in order to keep up the momementum in textile design.
This was the thinking behind the creation of a collection of luxurious elegance and opulent extravagance, designed chiefly to set off windows.
This is achieved by Evaliia, for example, a very fine embroidery, using three lurex yarns - one transparent and two in different tones of gold – applied in strips on tulle and with its edges hand-cut. Or Baja, whose hologram sequins on the edging create a multi-coloured spectacle when caught in sunlight.
Or featherweight Gallina, a typical Schlaepfer creation in white or black, where every feather, each with a rhinestone, has been painstakingly applied to the tulle by hand.
The Amur brocade print, with its rich texture and colours is like a fascinating and romantic musical composition. Its companion is the Amurpaille embroidered with transparent sequins. Whether as a wall covering or at the window, both make a strong and exciting statement.
The flowing curtain fabric Bojan stands for total extravagance and luxury. Its embossed gold, silver or copper-coloured sequins are stitched so as to overlap, creating the effect of chased metal.
Meta, on the other hand, available in twelve different colours, is a genuine metallic fabric. Its weight, its transparency and its two alternative tones – front or back - make it quite simply the finest classic among all the metallic fabrics on the market. The fabric can be hand-creased on request.
The fabric Olya is printed with a generous and romantic flower design. Its two layers of metal create an optical effect of the greatest elegance.
Maksim Lena, Maksim Versailles and Maksim Bouquet are wonderful chinegal warp prints with huge designs inspired by flowers, tendrils and the textures of wood. The endlessly repeating pattern makes for a striking presence at windows or on walls.
Igor Giardino and Igor Flores stand out as splendidly as Russian tsars. Igor Giardino is available with the edging on the left or on the right, and lends itself to being combined with Igor Flores. The ornate family of tsars is equally commanding in classic interiors or in modern establishments.
Even more powerful are Lara Meisen and Lara Cixi – two brocade fabrics where the weave technique combines with the printed motifs to create new effects. Both Laras are also suitable for lightweight covers.
A world first is presented by Vada Pleats and Vada Giardino. Never before has printing been carried out on three layers of tulle simultaneously. The effect is as beautiful as it is striking, since the three layers give the fabric a 3D look: Vada Giardino could almost be a real garden on the window!
Vada Serge and Buonanotte Serge stand for tasteful modernism. Huge, powerful brush strokes across the entire width of the repeating pattern make for a show at the window that simply bursts with energy.
The collection is supplemented with the flame-retardant Buonanotte fabric for black out draperies, which can be printed with all the motifs in the collection. Wonderful combinations can be created at the window by printing the same motif on different basic fabrics. Furthermore, most of the fabrics are suitable for contract use, as they can be treated with a flame retardant finish.
The Jakob Schlaepfer team has also tackled the subject of walls, and created their own version of wallpaper. Glinka is a bonded holographic foil, suitable both for applying directly to a wall and for wrapped panels. Glinka displays all the possible print motifs of the collection in their full size, and gives a very special note to a whole range of interiors. Glinka can also be used in between glass or resin sheets for wall division and flooring or simply as a wonderful table cloth for a very special table setting.
At the same time as introducing the Décor Collection, Jakob Schlaepfer is launching a Custom Tailored Service - in other words, individual design and manufacture of fabrics for both architects and private clients to create unique interiors.
For example, for the this years’ Milan furniture fair Jakob Schlaepfer has created and produced 40 different covers for the famous Zanotta «Sacco», designed by Piero Gatti & Partners in 1968, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a large special exhibition. The prestigious exhibition will be travelling to museums around the globe and will be auctioned to design collectors.
Measurements:
Most designs in the Décor collection are produced in a width of between 135 and 145cm. Evaliia and Baja each measure 295cm and can also be used horizontally.
